As reported on Friday by club president Jean-Michel Aulas, Gerard Houllier will remain in the position of head coach for the upcoming season.
"I confirm that Gerard Houllier will be the coach. He is staying. I do not want to leave any doubt on this issue," J.M. Aulas said in an interview with the sports newspaper "L'Equipe."
Former "Liverpool" coach took charge of the "Lyon" team in the 2005-2006 season and helped the team win the title of the strongest French team for the 5th consecutive time. It is almost certain that "Lyon" will win this trophy again this season, as they currently have a lead of 17 points.
There was a question about whether G. Houllier would continue to coach the club, when "Lyon" was eliminated from the Champions League by "AS Roma" and lost to "Bordeaux" in the League Cup.
J.M. Aulas is convinced that most key players such as midfielder Juninho and goalkeeper Gregory Coupet should remain in the team.
"Some people thought Juninho should leave the team. I talked to the player and I am confident he will stay. The same goes for Greg (note - Gregory Coupet)," said the president of "Lyon."
