London club captain John Terry has stated that he wants to stay at this club despite negotiations for a contract extension having stalled.
"I have informed the club that I want to stay here for a long time. Negotiations for a new contract extension have broken down and I don't know when we will resume them. As the captain of Chelsea, it is very important for me to be on the field and work with the boys for the good of the team," said the defender.
The 26-year-old England national team defender J.Terry has been representing Chelsea since childhood. His current contract expires in the summer of 2009.
The London club captain emphasized good relationships among the players: "All team members would like to stay here. We have become a closely knit family and would like to play together for many more years. I wouldn't want anyone to leave the team this summer."
For now, the future of Chelsea's coach Jose Mourinho is unclear. There have been discussions for some time that the Portuguese may be sacked after this season, but the players of the "Blues" have publicly supported the coach on numerous occasions.
Chelsea has already won the League Cup this season, reached the FA Cup final, the Champions League semi-final, and continues to fight for the third consecutive Premier League title.
