Strategist Rafael Benitez admitted to rejecting a new offer from Madrid to coach the team, even though it was financially more attractive than his current specialist contract.
Reports also claim that the Spanish surname "Royal" is higher on the list of candidates for the "Real" club than London's "Chelsea" manager Jose Mourinho.
"The decision was not difficult. I told the "Real" executives no when they offered me more money than I get here, even though their expectations were probably different," R. Benitez said.
"Madrid is my hometown, but in Liverpool I am happy and satisfied with everything."
It is no secret that R. Benitez, who triumphed with the English team in the Champions League in 2005, had the opportunity to take the helm of "Real" last summer, but even then and now, he did not succumb to such an opportunity.
"I want to stay, as the ideas of the new owners are very promising. My family is also happy, and I am ready even for my daughter to speak with the typical accent of the city, although sometimes it is a problem for me."
"I clearly say - I rejected a good offer because we are all satisfied.
"It is not a question of money. It is my project, my club, my players, my fans."
