The striker of Birmingham club Juan Pablo Angel will soon move to the MLS league in the USA, specifically to the club "New York Red Bulls". This was officially confirmed by the Premier League club on Tuesday. The transfer fee has not been officially announced.
The 31-year-old Colombian arrived in Birmingham in 2001 from the Argentine club "River Plate" for 14 million euros. During this time, the footballer played 205 matches and scored 65 goals for Aston Villa, but recently has been less frequently included in the main lineup.
Red Bulls Sports Director and Head Coach Bruce Arena stated that J.P.Angel is exactly what his team needs: "I am very pleased that we were able to acquire such a player. Since the end of 2006, we have been looking for a striker and Juan Pablo was the favorite on my list of desired players."
"I believe that the MLS league is growing and improving rapidly and I am eager to contribute to that," said Juan Pablo Angel himself.
This year, the New York team has already acquired one player from the Premier League. In January, former USA national team captain, defender Claudio Reyna returned home from Man City.
The Red Bulls started the new MLS season with a 0-0 draw against Columbus Crew and a 3-0 victory against Dallas.
