London club coach Arsene Wenger has been fined for criticizing the referee. The English Football Association fined the French strategist £2,500 and issued a warning.
A. Wenger committed the offense during the Premier League match on December 16 between Arsenal and Portsmouth. Just before halftime, referee Steve Bennett awarded a penalty kick to the Gunners, which was converted by opponent player Nwankwo Kanu. During halftime, dissatisfied with this decision, the coach attacked the referee and was sent off. The match ended in a 2-2 draw.
Arsene Wenger himself has a history of not holding back his sharp words towards match officials.
It is worth mentioning that at the end of last year, Arsenal's manager was fined £10,000 for an incident with then West Ham coach Alan Pardew in November.
