Attacker Milan Baros got involved in a widely publicized racist scandal in France after showing controversial gestures to "Rennes" defender Stephane M'Bia.
The match ended in a 0-0 draw, which prevented the "Lyon" team from securing another national championship title ahead of time, but the main topic of discussion in the local newspapers was not the result, but the Czech's gesture.
The former striker approached his opponent several times, visibly covering his nose and trying to show that S.M'Bia was emitting an unpleasant smell.
One of the "Rennes" officials, Frederick de Saintas Serninas, promised to clarify the situation and take measures so that M.Baros would not go unpunished.
"I don't know exactly what happened, but soon I will have all the information. I heard discussions and will review the video recording in the near future.
"If M.Baros really behaved like that, I will demand punishment, because it cannot be tolerated. The French league condemns racism after all."
Meanwhile, in a response statement from the "Lyon" club, the accusations were promptly rejected.
"M.Baros simply wanted to express what he couldn't say in French: 'leave me alone and give me a break'," said the website of the multiple French champions.
"He, like the entire "Lyon" club, has always condemned any expression of racism in sport or in life."
