In the German Bundesliga, Leverkusen, currently in 5th place, will receive reinforcements in the summer - the club has confirmed that they will acquire the most productive player of the championship, Greek Theofanis Gekas.
The 26-year-old striker joined "Bochum" at the beginning of this season, scoring 18 goals in the Bundesliga this season.
T. Gekas agreed to sign a four-year contract, and Leverkusen should pay €4 million (2.7 million pounds) for him in the summer, provided that "Bochum" does not drop to the lower German league.
"We did everything to keep Theofanis in our club, exceeding our club's financial capabilities", said Stefan Kuntz, general director of "Bochum", to the newspaper "Kicker". "However, he requested to be sold because it is a very important step in his professional football career."
The player himself did not hide his joy that he will wear the "Bayer" team's jersey next season: "This is a fantastic opportunity for me both in sports and financial terms. I believe I made the right decision."
