On Wednesday, A Lyga 6th round matches will be played in the country's football stadiums. As in every round, there will be intriguing matches in this one as well.
In Kaunas, the league leaders will meet - last year's champion "Kaunas" and surprisingly Vilnius "Žalgiris" at the top of the tournament table. In the previous round, after a long break, the Žalgiris team finally seek to defeat "Kaunas". Currently, the biggest headache for Žalgiris is their attack. Even 3 out of 5 team goals this season were scored by defender Edvinas Lukoševičius, while one of the Kaunas forwards Ričardas Beniušis has already scored 8 times. Žalgiris defender from Cameroon Bertrandas Ngapounou will have to miss this match due to yellow cards.
In Panevėžys, two teams that did not start the season as expected - "Ekranas" and Vilnius "Vėtra" - will compete. Vilnius is currently fifth with 8 points, while Panevėžys is sixth with 6 points. Both teams certainly did not expect such a start and the fight promises to be very intriguing, as neither side wants to stay in the middle of the table.
In Vilnius, after earning a point in Klaipėda on Sunday, Visaginas "Interas" will play against the ambitious and increasingly powerful Marijampolė "Sūduva". "Interas" footballers made everyone take them seriously this season - they narrowly lost to "Kaunas" and earned points in the match against "Atlantas". Meanwhile, "Sūduva" in matches against last year's prize winners "Kaunas", "Ekranas" and "Vėtra" has already collected 5 points.
In Šiauliai, they will host Klaipėda's "Atlantas", who have yet to secure their first victory. "We hope to prepare the team better than in the match against "Vilnius", when the team lacked focus in the first half and failed to follow the coaches' instructions. We also hope for good fan support. "Atlantas" are our closest pursuers and in this match we will play not for 3, but for 6 points," - said "Šiauliai" coach Darius Magdišauskas to the club's website before the upcoming match.
The fact that Šiauliai's defense has been strengthened this year by Egidijus Žukauskas will add some intrigue to the match, as he has not spoken very favorably about his former club "Atlantas" and its leader Vacė Lekevičius.
In the previous round, "Vilnius" surpassing "Šiauliai" at home will seek another victory against "Šilutė". So far, the biggest problem for Vilnius has been their finishing. In the match against "Šiauliai", "Vilnius" had many promising opportunities, but only scored 2 goals. Team coach Antanas Vingilys attributed this to the players' relaxation and promised not to repeat such mistakes in the match against "Šilutė".
