Bremen and the German national team forward Miroslav Klose apologized to his club on Friday for a conversation with the leaders of his opponents from Munich.
"The meeting with Bayern was completely unofficial and there was no mention of negotiations for signing a contract," said the 28-year-old sniper, who was born in Poland.
Later, M. Klose had a conversation with Werder's manager Klaus Allofs, who invited the player to explain the report that appeared in the newspaper "Bild" on Thursday, stating that he had met with Bayern Munich coach Ottmar Hitzfeld and president Uli Hoeness.
"The meeting lasted only 20 minutes, but it was an inappropriate gesture, so I apologized to the director and the Werder fans. I should have discussed it with the coach and the president immediately," said the most productive forward of the 2006 World Cup final stage.
K. Allofs stated that he believed M. Klose's version of the events.
"We explained to him that even though his contract with Werder Bremen is valid, he cannot join another German club," warned K. Allofs.
M. Klose, who ended his goal drought at the beginning of this month, noted that if he were to leave, he would prefer a move abroad, with reports suggesting that AC Milan is interested in him.
According to Werder Bremen's management, there is a gentleman's agreement with the player that he will not start any negotiations with another Bundesliga club in Germany.
