ESPN revealed how the referees made mistakes in the "Tottenham" - "Liverpool" match © Reuters

On Saturday evening, one of the most scandalous referee decisions in recent years occurred in the match between "Tottenham" and "Liverpool".

In the 34th minute of the match, Luis Diaz was flagged offside, which he was not. The situation was even reviewed by VAR, but they confirmed - there was an offside, and the goal should not stand.

After the match, the PGMOL (referees' association) immediately apologized to the "Liverpool" team for this mistake.

ESPN journalist Dale Johnson revealed what the situation was. Another well-known "Premier League" referee, Darren England, was sitting behind the VAR monitor. He believed that a goal had been scored during the match.

D. England saw that there was no offside, so he simply informed the match referee: "Review completed".

Since the incident during the match was assessed differently (offside), match referee Simon Cooper thought that the decision should remain the same. Therefore, the offside stood and the game continued. And after the next whistle, the situation could no longer be overturned and the goal was counted.

PGMOL had already prepared an apology for the "Liverpool" team during the match.
