Eight years ago, a little-known Brazilian Wendell Lira became famous worldwide.
Back then, in the Best Goal of the Year awards, the forward managed to outshine Lionel Messi himself and win the "Puskas Award."
Foreign media became interested in how the athlete who achieved a historic feat is doing now.
As W. Lira said, in 2015, before becoming a candidate for the impressive prize, he was consumed by the darkest thoughts and even thought about leaving life.
"When you can't put food on the table and satisfy even the minimal needs of your wife and daughter... I saw no way out of this situation," said the Brazilian, who was then playing for the lower league team "Goianesia."
According to the press, 82% of Brazilian footballers playing in Brazil earn just $250 a month.
Nevertheless, after a difficult period, W. Lira entered a new stage of life.
Although his player career was short-lived due to injuries (until the age of 27), the famous footballer from the awards ventured into the world of esports.
On his "Youtube" and "Twitch" channels, he has almost half a million subscribers and constantly hosts EA FC game broadcasts. W. Lira has also signed a long-term contract with a local marketing company and earns significantly more than in the football field.
