The Liverpool club continues to extend contracts with young players in their team. This time, goalkeeper Iain Turner agreed to extend his contract with the "Toffees" for another two years and will stay at Goodison Park until 2011.
The 23-year-old I. Turner debut this season in the ranks of Everton in last Saturday's 4-2 loss to Man Utd. In the first 60 minutes, the young goalkeeper defended the team's goal perfectly, but after his mistake, the "Red Devils" softened the result and managed to win the match.
He joined his teammates, young forwards James Vaughan and Victor Anichebe, who on Wednesday signed four-year contracts committing to stay at Everton until 2011.
"I extended my contract for another two years despite the fact that the current contract was supposed to end in 2009. I want to believe that during those four years, I will have the opportunity to play every week," said the Scot.
"Everton is a very big club. They offered me to extend the contract, and my ambition here is to become the main goalkeeper of the team," said I. Turner.
The goalkeeper was loaned to the lower English league team Sheffield Wednesday, where he played in 11 matches. He believes that the experience gained will be very valuable.
"Luckily for me, I had the opportunity to play for Sheffield Wednesday," added I. Turner. "It's a great club, and we had some very important matches where I think I performed well. I gained a lot of experience with the Wednesday team, but now I am in the Everton club and I want to leave my mark here, and I am fully committed to that."
With two matches remaining in the English championship, Everton team is in 6th position.
