European football's main organization UEFA fined Belgium's national team goalkeeper Stijn Stijnen 5,000 Swiss francs for threats against "Man Utd" and Portugal's national team defender Cristiano Ronaldo.
In a local Belgian newspaper, S. Stijnen's words are quoted expressing the thought that his teammates could injure C. Ronaldo and thus improve their chances of winning in the European Championship qualifying match on March 24.
"After two minutes, we will attack C. Ronaldo in such a way that he will have to leave the field," - were the words of the Belgian goalkeeper before the match.
The goalkeeper defended himself by saying that he was misquoted, but UEFA was not convinced, and the disciplinary committee punished S. Stijnen for inappropriate statements in the media.
At the moment, Portugal's national team, which is in second place in Group A, convincingly defeated their opponents with a score of 4- in that match. C. Ronaldo scored twice in this match.
In addition, the Spanish club "Osasuna" and the Scottish team "Rangers" received fines for disturbances caused by fans in the UEFA Cup eighth-final match held in Spain on March 14.
"Osasuna" was fined 45,000 euros for improperly organized matches and inappropriate behavior of its fans.
"Rangers" will have to pay 12,000 euros for the inappropriate behavior of their supporters as well.
