“Optibet A Lyga” champion football club “Panevėžys” has secured another golden season by signing goalkeeper Vytautas Černiauskas to a new two-year contract.
Having won the Lithuanian champion title with the former Panevėžys side “Ekranas” until 2010, the goalkeeper did the same in the first season after returning to his hometown following a long break. In the last season of “Optibet A Lyga,” V. Černiauskas played 35 matches and 4 games in the UEFA Europa Conference League qualifiers.
In the Lithuanian championship, the Panevėžys player only let in 14 goals, kept a clean sheet 24 times, and saved 2 penalties.
“The decision to stay this time was not difficult, as the goals of this season have been achieved and I did not want to leave the work that had already started. I believe that the team can achieve even more and it is pleasant to contribute to this whole process,” said V. Černiauskas for fk-panevezys.lt.
"A very tough season awaits us, as in football it is always harder to defend what you have achieved, so the A Lyga championship is expected to be very tense. Also, at the beginning of summer, we will be able to test our strength for the first time by playing in the Champions League qualifiers. The club is progressing step by step, but always aiming higher.
“I really hope that this year's championship title will help the club to improve even more and become more professional, and the team will continue to fight until the last second in every match,” added V. Černiauskas.
