On Thursday, Italian anti-doping officials requested that the club forward be disqualified for two years, as the doping test conducted in January after the match with Milan's "Inter" was positive.
The Italian Olympic Committee, which oversees doping control in all sports, announced on its website that a request for a two-year disqualification had been made and that this issue had been passed on to the Italian Football Federation for resolution.
If the player were suspended for two years, it would likely mean the end of his career, as the Genoa club forward is already 32 years old.
