"Real Madrid" announced that they want to buy the Romanian striker Adrian Mutu from Chelsea.
Although Mutu played and scored goals quite well in the first half of the season, after Christmas, he encountered a crisis. For this reason, he spent a lot of time on the bench, as the coach often preferred Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Hernan Crespo, and Eidur Gudjohnsen.
"Atletico" confirmed that they want to acquire the former "Parma" star, but added that it could be very complicated due to the player's high price.
Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich's "Chelsea" paid nearly £16 million (about 83 million litas) for the player last summer, and it is believed that the club would like to recoup a large part of this amount for the 25-year-old player. Meanwhile, "Atletico" cannot offer anything close to this sum.
"We know that buying him will be very difficult, because "Chelsea" paid a lot of money last year and will want to recoup a large part of it," said "Atletico" sports director Tonis Munozas.
