The president of the Munich team, Franz Beckenbauer, confirmed that the club is interested in the forward of the Italian national team and the "Serie A" club.
"He is a guarantee of scoring goals, he has character and constantly helps the team, he is a specific type of player," Beckenbauer praised the player in an interview with "Gazzetta dello Sport" on Friday. "I hope he will join us."
When asked if Bayern had reached an agreement with Fiorentina to acquire L.Toni, Beckenbauer replied, "I don't know, I can only say that Bayern needs a new character. All transfers are in Rummenigge and Hoeness' hands."
Last week, the German magazine "Sport-Bild" reported that the Italian will join Bayern for 18 million euros after this season.
L.Toni scored two goals in the quarterfinals of the 2006 World Cup against the Ukrainian team. He also defeated Scotland's goalkeeper twice in a qualifying match for the 2008 European Championship last month.
Currently, Bayern ranks 4th in the Bundesliga and is 9 points behind the leaders with 3 rounds left to play. Head coach Ottmar Hitzfeld has promised huge changes for the next season.
