Belgian national team striker Emile Mpenza signed a one-year contract with the English Premier League team ranked 14th on Sunday.
The 28-year-old striker, being a free agent in February this year, joined the ranks of Man City, with whom he signed a contract until the end of this season. However, the player demonstrated excellent performance in the Premier League and scored 2 goals, so the Manchester management wanted to keep the Belgian in the team for a longer period and signed a one-year contract with the possibility of extending it for another three years.
Before arriving at Man City, the striker played for Qatar's Al Rayyan team, as well as in Germany for Schalke and Hamburger, and spent three seasons in Liege's Standard team. He played 47 matches for the national team and scored 17 goals.
The senior coach of Man City team, Stuart Pearce, was pleased that all contract issues were resolved: "We have been talking to Emile for the past few weeks and I think he has shown great play," S.Pearce said on the club's official website. “We are very happy that he agreed to stay in this club. I was very impressed with him not only as a footballer but also as a person. The fans also quickly accepted him because he is very hardworking and has a nose for goals."
“The more time he spends playing in England, the better he will play football, so we are very happy that the contract signing is now done,” the strategist added. “He has a great resume, can score from anywhere, and there were no doubts about signing the contract, because since he arrived at Man City, he has been doing a great job."
