N. Petkevičius is moving to the Šiauliai club © FA Šiauliai

The historical 3rd place in the "Optibet A League" this year FA "Šiauliai" continues its team building work for the 2024 season.

Today, the leaders of the sun city academy shook hands with another offseason newcomer. He became the Lithuanian Nauris Petkevičius, who belonged to the highest Belgian football league club for the past two years.

The striker from Babtai started his professional football career at the time of the Kaunas "Stumbra", after which the young talent moved to one of the flagships of French football - "Lille OSC". After some time in Lille, Nauris returned to his homeland and put on the jersey of the Kaunas district team "Hegelmann", which then played in the "Optibet I League".

For the 23-year-old footballer, the time in the blue and white team was probably the most successful of his recent career. Nauris played 41 matches for the team led by Andrius Skerla, scored 17 goals, and made 5 assists. It was after this successful series that he caught the attention of the Belgian club "Royale Charleroi SC".

However, although the player belonged to a Belgian football club since 2022, he only played 4 matches there and was later loaned to other teams. The last one played for the same country's team "K. Beerschot V.A.", then returned to Lithuania and defended the honor of the teams "Žalgiris" of Vilnius and "Hegelmann" of Kaunas district this year.

"The first thoughts are only positive and optimistic, I am happy to join the team of people from Šiauliai. I had a long conversation with Mindaugas Čepas about the plans and vision for the future in this academy, and after the conversation, I decided that this organization, which is loved by Lithuanians the most in the whole country, is the place where I want to continue my career."

With a large part of this team's footballers, I have played together before, with others I have competed on different sides of the barricades. However, overall, I think that adaptation should not take too long. "Phe past years may not have been the easiest, but you know how they say, tough times make people strong. I have learned a lot and I know that it will only benefit me in the future. Now all my concentration is on the black and yellow team goals for next year, I cannot wait to start preparing for the new season."

I would like to urge all the fans of the sun city to continue to attend the stadium in large numbers and spread love for football not only in the stands but throughout the city, and I promise to give all my strength so that the name of the sun city rings even louder! Forward, Šiauliai!" - said the second offseason newcomer N. Petkevičius.

The second team newcomer will wear the jersey marked with number 28 next season.
