In the English Premier League, a club currently occupying only 13th place has confirmed the request of Glen Roeder to be relieved of his duties as head coach, and it is speculated that the most likely candidate to take his place at the "Sharks" club is former strategist Sam Allardyce.
According to the official club statement, G. Roeder himself submitted the request for dismissal.
Last week, the 52-year-old S. Allardyce, who unexpectedly left Bolton Wanderers, was immediately linked to Manchester City and Newcastle United, with the latter club taking steps to attract the long-standing "Trotters" strategist.
For the 51-year-old G. Roeder, a license to lead the "Sharks" team was only granted at the beginning of this season, after he received a special permission from the Premier League to lead Newcastle despite lacking the necessary qualifications.
He temporarily took over the reins of Newcastle United since the dismissal of Graeme Souness, and under his leadership last season, the "Magpies" managed to rise from the bottom of the Premier League and secure a respectable 7th place, earning a spot in the Intertoto Cup, which Newcastle won this year.
However, this season, Roeder's team has been plagued by constant injuries from the start, and by the end of the English league, the team had only managed to play one game above the 12th place, accumulating a total of 42 points.
As a professional footballer and coach, Roeder spent six years at Newcastle United's eleventh, as well as coaching London's West Ham and Watford.
Newcastle United has lost even the slightest chance this season of securing a place in next year's European tournament, and in the past 52 years, they have never won the Premier League title even once.
