After a 3-2 result in favor of Madrid's "Real" team in important Spanish championship matches, and with the situation significantly deteriorating, not only to fight for the championship title, but also for the second place in the championship guaranteeing a spot in the UEFA Champions League group stage, head coach Juande Ramos regretted missed opportunities.
"We lost a great opportunity to win. With the score at 1-1, Daniel Alves missed two great opportunities to score, and that was crucial," said the strategist after the match. "Leading 1-2, we could definitely have won."
However, J. Ramos did not hesitate to praise the opponents: "A team of such level as "Real" took advantage of our failures. Although "Sevilla" controlled the match, "Real" took advantage of the gaps in our defense."
The Spaniard also praised his colleague within the "Real" ranks Fabio Capello for predicting a great substitution: "The substitution of Guti was a great decision. He not only contributed to all three goals but also constantly noticed gaps in our defense."
However, the coach found time to praise his players' performance and stated that he has not given up on the title yet.
"We lost a great opportunity to beat a direct rival, but there are still fifteen points left in the championship, so we need to fight with all our might," the Spaniard said.
J. Ramos had no complaints about the referee Perez Burrull who showed three red cards on Sunday - to "Sevilla" forward Luis Fabiano, his teammate Aitor Ocio, and "Real" forward Robinho.
"I can't say anything about Luis Fabiano's expulsion because I don't know what happened and I haven't talked to him yet," the coach said immediately after the match. "The loss of Aitor Ocio was important because with a numerical advantage, we would have created more opportunities."
At the end of the press conference, the Spaniard praised his team's physical condition and emphasized that on Thursday his players will play an important UEFA Cup semi-final match.
