FC "Hegelmann" shook hands with the second newcomer of the upcoming season - 23-year-old defender Matas Vareika. The footballer is moving to Kaunas after spending five seasons in the ranks of Vilnius "Žalgiris".
"I decided to come to "Hegelmann" because I felt a great confidence both from the club's management and from coach Andrius Skerla, with whom our paths had crossed in the Lithuanian U-21 national team," - said the blue and white newcomer.
The footballer M. Vareika, who hails from Jonava, began his journey in Kaunas. Until the age of 19, the player honed his football basics at the National Football Academy, was repeatedly called up to the national youth football teams where he was one of the leaders.
In 2019, the promising footballer was recruited by the capital's club. In his first season, M. Vareika showed his full potential - he played 23 matches in the A League and scored 4 goals. Later, the player was plagued by constant injuries, but in total he played 39 matches in the main squad of "Žalgiris".
In the 2023 season, the blue and white newcomer played for "Žalgiris" B team in the First League and scored 12 goals in 15 matches.
"I believe in the upcoming season. Personally, I plan to work hard and contribute as much as possible to the team's victories," - said M. Vareika.
