Portugal's national team and Lisbon club forward Nuno Gomes will not be seen on the field this season anymore, as he decided to undergo surgery due to nagging groin pain and will miss the 2008 European Championship Group A matches against Belgium next month.
The former "Fiorentina" player has been plagued by groin problems for a long time and despite playing 24 matches in the Portuguese league and 14 matches in European tournaments, he decided to go under the knife on Monday.
"Nuno Gomes can train and play, but he is bothered by groin pain," revealed "Benfica" club on Sunday. - "After the match against Sporting, he was examined and doctors recommended surgery.
