The winner of the Dutch Football Cup, Amsterdam club "Ajax", has extended the contract with the Spaniard Gabri from Spain until July 2011.
The 28-year-old Spaniard arrived at the Dutch club last summer from the Spanish giant "Barcelona". This season, he scored 6 goals in 43 matches for "Ajax".
Last Sunday, Gabri was sent off the field during the Dutch Cup final match against Alkmaar's "AZ”, which "Ajax" won after a penalty shootout. In addition, the Spaniard received a three-match suspension.
Therefore, the Amsterdam team will have to cope without Gabri in the Dutch league playoff matches against "Heerenveen”. The winner of this pair will later play against the winner of the "AZ" and "Twente” pair for a spot in the Champions League.
This year, "Ajax" unfortunately did not become Dutch champions, losing the first position to "PSV” from Eindhoven in the last round only due to a worse goal difference.
