The "Premier" League vice-champions Glasgow club announced that their ranks will be strengthened this summer by acquiring forward Jean-Claude Darcheville from the French "Ligue 1" team.
The 31-year-old footballer, who decided not to extend his contract with Bordeaux this summer, agreed to sign a two-year contract with Rangers and will stay at Ibrox until 2009.
Rangers confirmed that they won the battle against several French clubs who also wanted the footballer known as the "rocket" in their team.
"Since Dado Pršo will leave the club after the season, we were looking for a player who could fill the gap in attack and strengthen our attacking line," said Rangers' head coach Walter Smith.
The Glasgow club announced that Bordeaux offered him a new two-year contract, and the Frenchman born in Ghana was also wanted by Monaco.
"There were several other clubs that showed interest in him, and Bordeaux tried to offer him a new contract, so we are pleased that he will represent our team in the next two seasons," added former Scotland national team coach W.Smith.
Paul Le Guen, who was dismissed from his position as head coach of Rangers this season and returned to France to coach PSG, helped unleash J.C. Darcheville's talent while leading Rennes.
Scoring 8 goals this season, the powerful Frenchman, who was a target for former Rangers coach Alex McLeish in 2005, admitted later that the deal did not happen. Later, Darcheville himself acknowledged that Le Guen's arrival at Rangers sparked his desire to play for the Glasgow team.
