Defender of the German national team Torsten Frings has extended his contract with his club Bremen for another two years, thus definitively denying any rumors about a possible transfer to Italy after this season.
Under the new agreement, the 30-year-old footballer has committed to the Weserstadion team until the summer of 2011.
"I had a great offer from Juventus in Turin, but my heart still belongs to Werder," said T. Frings.
Bremen's sports director Klaus Allofs stated: "We gave Torsten complete freedom to decide what to choose. We are glad that this exceptional player stayed with us."
T. Frings began his professional football career in Bremen in 1996 and played here until 2002. Later, the defender represented Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich, returning to Werder in 2005. T. Frings also made 66 appearances for the German national team.
"The strength of our team depends significantly on Torsten's game. So this contract means that we can continue to demonstrate our style of play and strength," emphasized Werder coach Thomas Schaaf.
In the German Bundesliga, Bremen currently holds the third place with only two points behind the leader Schalke, with two games left.
