London's team has extended the contract with defender Michael Dawson for four more years, until the summer of 2012. His previous contract was valid until 2008.
The 23-year-old defender arrived at Tottenham in January 2005 for 6 million euros from Nottingham Forest and has already played 95 matches. It is interesting to note that this season, Dawson appeared in 57 out of 58 matches for Spurs.
"This contract will be beneficial for both me and the club," said the footballer.
"I am delighted that we were able to extend the contract. Michael is the type of player who will be very valuable for us in the future. In my opinion, he was our best player this season, although there are many other contenders. Due to injuries to Anthony Gardner and Ledley King in central defense, we had problems and gaps, but Dawson was able to fill them," said team manager Martin Jol.
Tottenham, currently in 6th place in the Premier League and realistically aiming for a UEFA Cup spot, will finish the English championship on Sunday with a match against Man City.
