In the quarterfinals of the African Nations Cup, Egypt fell to the Democratic Republic of the Congo after extra time.

In the main time, Meschak Elia put the Congo DR ahead in the 37th minute. Mostafa Mohamed equalized in the 45+1 minute.

In the 97th minute of extra time, Egypt's player Mohamed Hamdy Sharaf received a red card.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo won the penalty shootout with a score of 8:7. The final penalties were taken by the goalkeepers of these national teams. Egypt's goalkeeper Gabaski hit the ball onto the top goal frame, while the Congo DR goalkeeper coolly converted the penalty.

In the quarterfinals, the Democratic Republic of the Congo will face Guinea.
