The English Premier League club, which finished only 14th this season, decided to fire the former famous English national team defender Stuart Pearce, who had been leading the team for two years.

The contract with the current England Under-21 national team coach S. Pearce was terminated the day after the end of the 2006-2007 English Premier League season.

"The club management would like to thank Stuart for his hard work over the past few years and wish him the best of luck in the future," said the club's general director Alistair Mackintosh on the "Man City" official website.

The 45-year-old S. Pearce took over as the head coach of "Man City" in 2005 from Kevin Keegan, and although in his first season at the helm of the team he managed to lift the club to the 4th position in the league table, he couldn't keep up the pace and finished the championship in a lowly 15th place.

This season, Manchester City didn't fare much better - the team struggled in the middle of the league table and managed to finish only in 14th place, scoring only 10 goals in home games throughout the season, setting a record for the lowest number of goals in the history of the English Premier League.

Before the final match against Tottenham Hotspur, the Man City team had not won a single game in the last six matches, and the Englishman admitted that his future in the team was hanging by a thread due to the potential arrival of investors from Thailand.

Asked if a club takeover could cost him his job, the former captain of the English national team said: "It's not up to me whether I'll still be in that position or not. I hope it will be me. I'm confident that I did a decent job, but I know what we lack, and I plan to address that in the summer. If it's not me, I'll try to work as a coach and prove myself elsewhere."

S. Pearce led Man City in 97 matches, winning 34 times, suffering 43 defeats, and drawing 20 times.

In February, he took over from Crystal Palace's coach Peter Taylor and became the head coach of the England Under-21 national team, leading the team in the European Championship starting on June 10.
