Dutch coach Co Adriaanse has resigned from the position of head coach of the top Donetsk "Metalurg" club. He was followed by assistants Jan Olde Riekerink and Chris Kronhorst.

"Metalurg" is currently in 11th place out of 16 teams in the Ukrainian championship after 26 rounds. C. Adriaanse worked in Donetsk since December.

The 59-year-old Dutchman previously gained fame in the football world when he reached the UEFA Cup semi-finals with the little-known Alkmaar "AZ" club and won the Portuguese championship and cup with "Porto".

"I apologize for ending the collaboration. I am stepping down with only four games left until the end of the season, because I feel it will be very difficult to prepare the team for the new Ukrainian championship during the summer break," said C. Adriaanse upon resigning.

Belgian Joos Daerden will temporarily lead the Donetsk "Metalurg" club until the end of the season as the assistant team coach.
