Although the season in Germany has not ended yet, Bayer Leverkusen, who has already secured a place in the UEFA Cup tournament, continues to strengthen. This week, the team was supplemented by 21-year-old defender Lukas Sinkiewicz, who signed a four-year contract.
On Friday, Bayer announced that this summer the team will be further reinforced by two more defenders - 30-year-old Hansas Sarpei and 20-year-old Sascha Dumas.
Hansas Sarpei participated in the World Cup last summer with the Ghana national team. He has been playing in Germany since 1998, and has been representing Wolfsburg since 2001.
Sascha Dumas actually belongs to Bayer's club, but for the past 18 months he has been loaned out to the struggler Aachen.
Meanwhile, Leverkusen's coach Michael Skibbe assessed the ending season very positively: "We have real reasons to be happy. We are very satisfied that we have achieved our goal and are returning to the UEFA Cup. However, we are concerned about the inconsistency of the team - there were good matches, but there were also very bad ones. We have a long way ahead of us until the team gains more solidity. Still, I think that in a year or two we will return to the elite of the Bundesliga."
Bayer will end the season on Saturday with a match at home against Borussia Dortmund who has risen from the bottom in the second half of the season.
