35th round: "Real" preserves leader's position © EuroFootball.com

Brazilian Roberto Carlos' goal in extra time allowed Madrid's Real to secure a dramatic victory against Huelva's Recreativo and maintain their lead position. Although the Royal club led after goals from Robinho and Ruud van Nistelrooy, Jesus Vazquez and Ikechukwu Uche equalized the result at the end of the match, before finally winning the victory from the left-back defender.

In the last round of matches, Barcelona thrashed Madrid's Atletico players 6-0 as visitors. Lionel Messi scored two goals for the current Spanish champions, while Gianluca Zambrotta, Samuel Eto'o, Ronaldinho and Andres Iniesta each added one. Atletico finished the match with ten men, as Fabiano Eller received a red card in the 72nd minute.

A late goal by Frederico Kanoute helped Sevilla win an important victory away against La Coruna's Deportivo and stay in the race for the Spanish championship title. Meanwhile, on the opposite side of the league table, Vigo's Celta significantly complicated their chances of staying in the top league by losing 3-1 away to San Sebastian's Real Sociedad.

In the match in La Coruna, Sevilla found it difficult to convert their created opportunities. UEFA Cup champions defended their title in the midst of the week as players found themselves in roles changing in the middle of the second half when Deportivo took the lead through Rodolfo Bodipo. However, Sevilla showed great determination to win, and it paid off: Brazilian goalkeeper Renato equalized the result with a header after a penalty kick, and six minutes later Kanoute clinched the victory after a pass from Jesus Navas.

Meanwhile, just after losing UEFA Cup final on penalties, Barcelona's Espanyol suffered a crushing defeat on Sunday as they were beaten 5-1 at home by Getafe.

After this round, there was no change in the top four: Barcelona and Madrid's Real shared first and second places with equal points, but the latter occupies the first place due to superiority in the head-to-head matches. Sevilla maintained the third position, and Valencia held onto the fourth spot.

On the other side of the league table, only theoretical chances remained for Taragona's Gimnastic players to stay in the top league - with three rounds left, they are nine points below the survival zone. In the relegation zone, Vigo's Celta and San Sebastian's Real Sociedad still remain, with Athletic Bilbao having one more point than them.
