Brazilian football legend Romario scored his, as he claims, 1000th goal of his career on Sunday, when he converted an 11-meter penalty for "Vasco de Gama" and helped the team beat "Sport Recife" 3-1.
The 41-year-old striker fooled "Sport" goalkeeper Magrao, sending him the wrong way, and this goal led to such ovations and euphoria in the stadium that the Brazilian championship match had to be halted for 16 minutes.
After the goal scored in the 48th minute, dozens of people, including friends, family members, and radio and TV journalists, invaded the field to congratulate the 1994 World Champion.
Although Romario himself, who has represented clubs like PSV Eindhoven and Barcelona during his career, admits that these 1000 goals include goals scored in youth teams and friendly matches.
