Prosecutors' verdict: Russia and Qatar bought the right to host world championships for millions © JumpStory

The US prosecutor, investigating the FIFA corruption scandal, revealed information that Russia paid millions to former Executive Committee members to "correctly" vote and give Russia the opportunity to host the 2018 World Cup, as reported by lrytas.lt. The ongoing investigation for years into FIFA officials' fraud, bribery, and money laundering each time reveals crimes at the heart of football. The US prosecutors provided data on how the hosts for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups were selected. As is known, in 2010 during the Executive Committee meeting and official presentations, the hosting rights were awarded to Russia and Qatar. The Americans explained that in 2015, former FIFA vice president Jack Warner was bribed by Russian representatives through intermediaries, so that his representation of Trinidad and Tobago would vote for Russia's candidacy. Money was also promised to FIFA delegate Rafael Salguero from Guatemala. Meanwhile, Qatar also did its "work" by managing to "thank" former president of the Brazilian Football Federation Ricardo Teixeira, now in exile, former president of the South American Football Confederation Paraguayan Nicolas Leoz, and another unnamed FIFA delegate. The US claims that J. Warner received 5 million US dollars for his vote for Russia, while R. Saguero was promised a million dollars.
