On Thursday evening, the eighth-finals stage of the 2024 FPRO LFF Cup tournament officially ended.
Let us remind you that last week, the teams that defeated their opponents and advanced to the next stage were FA "Šiauliai", Gargždai "Bangos", and Mažeikiai "Atmosferos", and this week, five remaining matches took place.
Perhaps the central match of the stage took place on Thursday evening in Širvintos, where the current cup holders "TransINVEST" hosted the current leaders of the TOPsport A League and multiple cup winners Vilnius "Žalgiris".
There was quite a surprise here - Žalgiris scored the first goal, but the hosts in Širvintos responded with a great period when they scored two goals in four minutes, defended the remaining time, and advanced to the next stage, while the capital's team failed to overcome the eighth-finals stage for the second year in a row.
In the next match, "Kauno Žalgiris" easily dealt with the team of Prienai "Nemunas", while "Hegelmann" and "Džiugas" had to sweat it out against clubs playing in lower divisions.
For a while, the Kauno Rajono team lagged behind the "Babrungo" team, but eventually proved their superiority by winning 3:2, while the Telšiai team, on the road, defeated FKS "Ukmergė" 2:1 not without difficulty.
The only match in the stage duel between two TOPsport First League teams was won by Kėdainiai "Nevėžis", who at home defeated "Ekranas" 2:1.
Results of this week's eighth-finals stage:
FK "Babrungas" - FC "Hegelmann" 2:3;
