The English "Evening Standard" newspaper reports that the club owner and Russia's richest man Roman Abramovich has begun negotiations to purchase part of the shares of a club in Tel Aviv. It is believed that the Russian met with representatives of the Israeli club on Tuesday and began negotiations.
The Chukotka governor, whose fortune is estimated at as much as 7.5 billion pounds, visited Israel early in the week, and one of the owners of "Hapoel" Moti Orenstein showed him the club's training base.
It is speculated that the billionaire also started negotiations for taking over the club. Currently, the Tel Aviv team is in deep financial crisis, so Abramovich's offers are likely not to be rejected, otherwise "Hapoel" could face bankruptcy.
The London club owner has been interested in the possibility of acquiring one or more clubs for some time. It was mentioned that the owner of the Russian oil company "Sibneft", which sponsors one of the most powerful Russian teams in Moscow, may invest in "Corinthians", "Deportivo" or "Alaves".
