The head coach Rafael Benitez stated that he does not intend to sell Peter Crouch this summer.
The club's new American owners, Tom Hicks and George Gillett, are ready to provide at least £40 million to acquire new footballers, so there may not be a place for some of the current "Reds" players in the team next season.
Furthermore, "Liverpool" has already acquired Bayer Leverkusen striker Andriy Voronin, who will arrive in England this summer, further increasing the competition among the team's attacking players.
Several clubs have already shown interest in Crouch, including a rival in the Premier League.
"I am satisfied with his performance and I definitely do not plan to sell him," denied Benitez.
"All footballers have a moment when they understand what they need to do and how to reach new heights in their game. That's what happened to Peter now."
"Liverpool" officials also promise to extend contracts with several team leaders in the near future. One of the first to receive a new offer should be midfielder Xabi Alonso, who is linked with a possible return to play in Spain.
Benitez does not hide that the reliable 25-year-old Spaniard, standing out with his game, is one of the key figures in the team's future plans, so a new contract for him is one of the priorities in the coming months.
"I am focused on the upcoming matches and I am not in a hurry," Xabi Alonso himself said. "But if they want to talk to me, I will be ready to listen."
