R. Benítez: "I am glad we stayed in the league, but I would like to fight for something more"

"Newcastle United" played their last home game of the season in the "Premier" League on Saturday. "Magpies" were defeated by the title-contending "Liverpool" team in the very end of the match.

After the game, the home fans loudly thanked the team's coach Rafael Benitez, whose contract with "Newcastle" will expire after this season.

Club officials have already started negotiations with the Spaniard, and the coach himself would like the team's ambitions to be not only the fight for survival in the "Premier" League.

"We have already had several talks about a new contract, and in the coming weeks we will also discuss it. Then it will be clearer what the real situation is at the moment," - said R. Benitez after the defeat to the "Liverpool" team.

"Everything is very simple. You can see the potential and dedication of the fans to this team.

We need to try to compete with the teams around us. At the moment, it's not easy. I'm glad we survived in the league, but I would like to fight for something more.

I hope that the club's ambitions will be as high as those of the fans," added the Spaniard.

"Newcastle" will face "Fulham" players in the last round of the "Premier" League.
