R. Benitez on the "Newcastle" situation: "I couldn't trust the club's management"

For three years, Rafael Benitez successfully led the "Newcastle United" team, but this summer he left the "Premier" League team and moved to the highest league in China, where he took over at "Dalian Yifang".

One of the leaders of "Newcastle", Lee Charnley, mentioned last weekend that the experienced Spanish coach went to China for money. Benitez responded to these words, stating that he could no longer trust the club's management.

"The club management had a whole year to resolve the situation regarding my contract, but after last season they failed to make an offer that I could accept.

I was told that the club did not want to invest money in the academy and training base. I can explain why Mike Ashley does not want to do that. Their idea was to buy players under the age of 24, but in my opinion, with that budget the club could not compete for a place in the top ten.

After that meeting, I knew that their next offer would not be suitable either. After 19 days, I received an offer with the same salary as before for three years, but I would have had less control over player signings.

After three years of unfulfilled promises, I could no longer trust the club management," Benitez wrote in "The Athletic" publication.
