Two Madrid veterans, Brazilian defender Roberto Carlos and Guti, extended their contracts with the Royal club on Monday.

The team from the Spanish capital announced that 33-year-old Roberto Carlos extended his contract for another season and will remain with the team until June 2008. In addition, the new contract includes a clause allowing for an extension for another year.

R. Carlos moved to Real in the 1996-1997 season from Inter Milan. Interestingly, back then, as it is now, Real was managed by Italian Fabio Capello.

The Brazilian immediately became a leader of the Madrid team and helped Real win 3 Spanish league titles, three European cups, and won the World Cup twice with the Brazilian national team.

Meanwhile, Guti, who recently celebrated his 30th birthday, extended his contract for two more seasons, so now his contract is valid until June 2010.

Guti is a product of the Real youth academy.

"We are very happy," rejoiced former teammate of both players and current Real sporting director Predrag Mijatović. "Firstly, because they will stay with us, and secondly - they play very well, and everyone is happy about it."
