R. Hodgson: there is no reason why England couldn't win the World Cup

The strategist of the English national team, Roy Hodgson, is confident that his team of eleven has realistic chances to compete for the title of world champions.

The 66-year-old specialist insists that he would not tolerate any player who, before the championship, would be of the mindset that the team cannot win.

"The fact that these are knockout matches allows me to think that we have a chance. Looking at past championships, in 1992 we saw the Danish team, made up of beach holidaymakers, defeat the Dutch on their way to the final, where they beat the Germans," he said.

"We are not in a low position in the rankings, so anyone who thinks we cannot win is barking up the wrong tree. I know that we can achieve a lot because of our goal. The path to victory must be trodden as accurately as possible. We have already taken important steps, we have a good team, so there are opportunities to triumph."

"The players are one hundred percent focused on victory, although they understand that it is a big task. We plan to go much further than the group stage," Hodgson said.

The English players will compete in Group D against the national teams of Italy, Uruguay, and Costa Rica. They will start their journey in the World Cup on June 14th with a match against Italy.
