Before the upcoming match with Iceland, England's national team coach Roy Hodgson said that his team is ready to continue their journey in the European Championship, but acknowledges that the Nordic character of Icelanders could pose a lot of problems.
England's national team finished second in Group B. Hodgson's players played draws with Russia and Slovakia in the European Championship, but defeated Wales. In the quarter-finals, the English will face a strong Iceland team. England are clear favorites, but Iceland showed in the group stage that they did not come to France just to lose.
"The result achieved today will be important not only for me, but for the whole team and the country. We want to stay in this tournament and we know that we are capable of doing so," Hodgson said.
In his squad, Hodgson has four attackers in excellent form. They are Harry Kane, Jamie Vardy, Daniel Sturridge, and Marcus Rashford.
"I was happy to be able to attract such attackers to my team. They all work hard in training and only after that I decide who will play. I am glad that I can choose from such a group," said the football specialist.
"I don't know Iceland as well as other Northern teams, but the character and ability of these people to get out of difficult situations will be their main weapon. We have to take on the favorite status in this match, although we know very well how difficult the game will be," the strategist added.
The clash between England and Iceland will take place today at 22:00. The match can be watched live on the LRT channel.
