Dutch national team coach Ronald Koeman revealed that he could have been at the helm of "Barcelona" team at the moment.
After head coach Ernesto Valverde was relieved of his duties, Barcelona's attention turned to various candidates. As R. Koeman revealed, the Catalan club had been in touch with him.
The 56-year-old specialist had previously admitted that he would consider the possibility of becoming the Barcelona coach after the European Championship. This is what determined his decision to reject the offer in the middle of the season.
"Yes, they contacted me, but I said 'no' because I am currently working with the national team," – briefly explained R. Koeman.
Talking about his compatriot Frenkie de Jong's season in Barcelona, the strategist added: "Firstly, he plays a lot and that is a positive thing. The difference is that he has to play in a different position, but that is the coach's decision.
He is still young and will learn new things over time. In the national team, of course, he will have a slightly different role."
