Belgium's national team coach Roberto Martinez believes that Michy Batshuayi was always capable of playing for London's "Chelsea", and the decision to loan him out was right for all parties.
The forward quickly returned to the fight for a place in the World Cup squad, as he rediscovered his form with Dortmund's "Borussia".
After the first part of the season, when the "aristocrats" coach Antonio Conte mostly kept him on the bench, the 24-year-old Belgian started his life in Germany with five goals in his first four matches.
"Playing in the World Cup is a unique moment in a career, so you must be able to play well in the club if you want to make it into the squad," Martinez told "talkSPORT".
"Michy Batshuayi's priority was not to stay in the Premier League but to find a club where he could play a significant role and feel like he's making an impact on the team.
"Michy was always ready at Chelsea, but the competition for the number nine position was really strong.
"He went to Dortmund and as a striker, you have to score that first goal as quickly as possible, and he scored two in his debut."
"You can see that he is happy and free. Sometimes a transfer in the winter gives you exactly that."
"With a changed environment, Michy has given himself a very good chance of making it into the World Cup squad."
