The soccer club "Panevėžys" will play one of the "TOPsport A League" matches at home between international battles. In the 23rd round, the residents of Panevėžys will meet "Kauno Žalgiris" for the third time this season.

Saulius Širmelis' team, after 22 matches in the Lithuanian championship, has 34 points and ranks third. The people of Kaunas have won 10 games, played to a draw 4 times, and lost 8 times.

In the Lithuanian championship, "Kauno Žalgiris" recently defeated Vilnius "Žalgiris" 1-0 at home, and during the break played a friendly match in Balstogė against their future opponents in the Champions League, "Jagiellonia," which resulted in a 0-2 loss. The mutual matches of 2024 went better for "Panevėžys" - they won 1-0 away and drew 0-0 at home.

The Kaunas team will be without two players disqualified due to receiving yellow cards this Saturday - Žan Benedičičias and David Martin Anane.

Rokas Rasimavičius, the defender who has started three matches in a row, shared his comment on the upcoming match on the website fk-panevezys.lt.

"The match in Helsinki gave the team a lot of confidence that we can play beautiful football and compete with the strongest teams from other countries. This confidence should help the team get back on the winning path in the A League.

"At the moment, "Kauno Žalgiris" is significantly higher in the tournament table than us, so we cannot underestimate them. The team always tries to play with the ball, has skilled players, so the match will certainly not be easy. If we play as we did in the last three matches, with a lot of motivation, great desire, and one hundred percent dedication, the result will come naturally," said the resident of Panevėžys.

The match between "Panevėžys" and "Kauno Žalgiris" will take place on Saturday, July 20th. The match will start at 19:00 at the "Aukštaitija" stadium.
