R. van der Vaart on Isco situation: "I would leave the stadium if I found out he won't start"

Former Dutch national team and Real Madrid goalkeeper Rafael van der Vaart cannot understand why a player of Isco's caliber can remain on the bench.

The 26-year-old Spaniard started the season fantastically, but after Julen Lopetegui's departure and Santiago Solari's arrival, Isco was not only pushed out of the starting position, but also left on the bench altogether.

Under S. Solari, Isco has not yet started a La Liga match in the starting lineup. In the weekend match against Real Betis, Isco did not even appear on the field, despite many key players being injured.

R. van der Vaart, speaking to the Marca magazine, stated that such a coach's decision is hard to understand, especially as a fan of the team.

"I find it hard to understand, because he is the best player in his position. However, he has always had problems with coaches, even Zidane did not trust him 100%," said R. van der Vaart.

"You know, if I arrived to watch a game in Madrid and saw that Isco was not in the starting lineup, I would turn around and go home," said R. van der Vaart.

Furthermore, the Dutchman added about the immense pressure from club fans: "When the team wins, it's the best, when it loses - the worst. I experienced this and remember that week, which was the worst in my life. However, such things are understandable, because Madrid is an especially large club, so you have to know what pressure you will receive from the stands."
