Madrid's "Real" defender Raphael Varane confirmed that he was approached by the "Manchester United" club.
The Frenchman arrived in the Spanish capital in 2011, when the current champions of this country were still led by Jose Mourinho.
When the 55-year-old specialist took over the reins at "the Red Devils", the media constantly linked Varane with a move to the Premier League.
"No, not directly," Varane replied when asked by "El Larguero" if Mourinho had invited him to come to "Man United". "There were contacts, but not direct ones."
Varane also took the opportunity to praise the "Red Devils" striker Romelu Lukaku, who received a lot of criticism this season.
"I feel more comfortable with quick players, as I try to control the depth of the field," added the Frenchman. "Considering my qualities, that suits me better."
"When they are stronger, I try to make forward passes, which I cannot do. For example, Lukaku. He is the strongest forward in the world. That is pure power."
"You have to play differently. I try to be more versatile so that I can bother any striker."
