Madrid's "Real" center-back Raphael Varane believes that his represented club receives so much criticism only because they haven't relinquished the Champions League title to anyone in recent years.
"Real" will face Bayern Munich in the semi-finals next week. The 11-meter penalty against Juventus, which secured their passage to the next stage in the last minute, particularly angered the fans.
Although many experts agreed that the penalty was justified, "Real" still faces harsh words. R. Varane admits that there is a group of people who hate the "white" club, but they are not the majority.
"Anti-madridismo"? It is obvious that many dream of seeing us lose. However, that is certainly not the majority. We feel a lot of support from our fans and we know that we are a respected club worldwide," the defender said.
"In recent years, we have always been in the most important stages of the Champions League, and people cannot accept that. They want us to lose every game, but that is part of football and we have to accept it. They will expect the same against Bayern," R. Varane added.
