Madrid's "Real" defender Raphael Varane revealed that the news of Zinedine Zidane's departure was unexpected, but the Frenchman acknowledged that the changes could turn out for the better.
A few weeks ago, Z. Zidane announced an unexpected decision - he left Madrid's "Real". This surprised not only the football community, but also the players themselves, as he had recently won the third UEFA Champions League trophy in a row.
However, many noticed that Z. Zidane had recently been lacking ideas, so he decided to step down at a time when the club was at its peak.
"We were warned about his decision before the press conference. Each of us received a personal message and, to be honest, we were easily shocked. We were very disappointed that we would no longer see him with us, but it was his decision and we have to respect it," said R. Varane.
Asked to comment on Z. Zidane's words when he mentioned at the press conference that the team needed a "new shock", the defender replied:
"Sometimes it's hard to agree with that, but the truth is that even small changes in football can benefit both sides. Our season in Spain showed certain signs. Perhaps we were lacking something, but we will only find out in the next season.
If Zidane was talking about it, he must have known. He is a very sincere coach who understands the players perfectly. If he felt that we needed some changes, then it had to be that way," added one of the best defenders in Europe.
