Football news portal Goal.com sources reveal that Glasgow Rangers hope to attract Steven Gerrard to the position of head coach.
The Scottish club has already spoken with the legendary Liverpool midfielder and is confident that they can reach an agreement.
The 37-year-old Englishman, who does not hide his desire to become a coach, is reportedly seriously considering the Rangers' offer.
Rangers' chairman, Dave King, watched the Liverpool match against Roma in Merseyside on Tuesday, while Gerrard visited Ibrox stadium last month during the Glasgow derby.
Currently, Gerrard is in charge of the Liverpool U-18 team, which recently played a friendly match on the Rangers' pitch.
"I will never forget being invited to Ibrox," Gerrard said after the match. "This stadium is an icon. I have great respect for this football club, its history, and traditions - that's why we accepted the invitation."
"I had to take the opportunity to give my team the experience of playing in such a stadium, just being there and in the dressing room - it's an amazing place."
It is almost certain that the current Rangers manager, Graeme Murty, who took over the team after the dismissal of Pedro Caixinha, will not be offered a long-term job.
